$1M bug bounty for Solana FireDancer client goes live this week
Starting Wednesday, Solana developers will have the chance to earn up to $1 million for finding bugs in the “Firedancer” independent verification client.
The first-of-its-kind bug bounty program for Firedancer is being offered by Jump Crypto and will be powered by bug bounty platform Immunefi – running for 42 days from July 10 to August 21.
Participants can enter a $1 million prize pool with a maximum payout in USD Coin (USDC) for a single bonus of $1 million.
FireDancer is a new authentication client that is expected to improve Solana's network performance. As an independent client validator, Firedancer plays a critical role in processing transactions and building blocks in Solana's $60 billion network.
FireDancer is touted as an advanced solution for “QUIC” — a Google-developed data transfer protocol that Solana has a history of processing when network activity increases.
Development of Firedancer v.0.1 was led by Cantelope Pell, an anonymous engineer at blockchain infrastructure firm Leap Crypto, which announced its bounty program on July 3.
Peel's team is still working on — and actively testing — the original Solana consensus and fork selection algorithms.
“We're doing live voting and other little things,” Pell added.
FireDinner is implemented in C and C++ software languages to handle high transaction volumes.
Anatoly Yakovenko, founder and CEO of Solana Labs, previously said that FireDancer could increase the speed of Solana's network.

Firedanner first went live on Solana Testnet in November 2023. Firedancer's GitHub account suggests that Peel and Jump Crypto have been running on the Solana authentication client since January 30, 2023.
Peel proposed to implement a similar version of Firedancer on Ethereum in March; However, no real progress has been made since then.
