$3M Crypto Stolen On Christmas Day - MS Drainer Fraudsters Drain Victims



Fraudsters continue to use Google ads to promote malicious websites that use wallet-taking software, stealing $3 million worth of cryptocurrencies.

As reported by Cointelegraph on December 21, scammers used MS Drenner to steal an estimated $59 million worth of cryptocurrency by 2023. According to Scam Sniffer, the attackers used Google ads to trick crypto users like Zapper, Lido Stargate, Defillama, Orbiter Finance and Radient.

On December 25, the security firm noted new incidents of phishing sites linked to the addresses of the same attackers in its fraudulent database.

Scam Sniffer confirmed to Cointelegraph that around $3 million was lost to phishing scams on Christmas Day. Scripts shared by the company show that a mix of wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC), Aave Polygon USDT (aPolUSDT), Aave USDC (aUSDC) and Tether (USDT) has been stolen on multiple occasions.

According to a company spokesperson, Google Ads Security was alerted to the continued promotion of fake websites and the use of wallet removal software in April 2023. However, ScamSniffer has not yet heard from the platform.

The latest phishing scams serve to remind cryptocurrency users to double-check the authenticity of websites and transactions authorized by Web3 wallets.
