World Foundation Sells $65M in WLD as Token Hits Record Lows
Sam Altman's World Foundation raised $65 million and set new records by organizing an over-the-counter (OTC) sale of WLD tokens.
In a post on Saturday on X, the foundation's token delivery arm, World Assets, completed the sale of four counterparties in the past week, the first part with a settlement on March 20. The transactions were priced at approximately $0.27 per token, indicating that around 239 million Worldcoin (WLD) changed hands.
“This sale will fund the project's core activities and operations, including R&D, orb manufacturing, ecosystem development, and more,” World Foundation said on X.
Of the total, 25 million dollars worth of tokens were locked for six months, while the rest were liquidated immediately.

WLD has reached a new low
Following the announcement, WLD briefly fell to an all-time low of $0.24 before recovering to $0.27, down 97% from its March 2024 high of $11.82. According to CoinMarketCap data, the token is currently at $0.2725, increasing by 0.28% in the previous day.
More supply pressure may be on the horizon. A major community token launch is scheduled for July 23, which will cover 52.5 percent of the token's 10 billion total supply, Defilama said.
Meanwhile, the new sale comes at a steep discount to previous rounds. In May last year, Andreessen Horowitz and Bain Capital Crypto raised $135 million from backers at roughly $1.13.
