Tata Signs Mou With Asml To Develop Semiconductor Ecosystem In India

Tata Electronics of the Netherlands, which holds a monopoly on the lithography machines needed to manufacture advanced semiconductors, and ASML have signed an MoU to build India's chip manufacturing ecosystem. The deal revolves around a new 300mm semiconductor fab in Dolera, Gujarat, which represents a planned investment of around $11 billion.

What exactly does the agreement cover?

The MOU is more than just a straight equipment purchase order. ASML will provide advanced lithography equipment and solutions to the Dolera facility, but the partnership will also include collaboration in training local talent in India and building supply chain resilience.

The Dolera fab is positioned as India's first commercial 300 mm semiconductor front-end facility. The chips produced at this facility are expected to target automotive, mobile device and AI applications.

The level of political attention seen by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jeton at the signing ceremony shows how seriously both governments take the semiconductor supply chain issue.
