A former PayPal executive has joined Tether as head of government affairs.

Tether has hired Jesse Spiro, an industry leader with more than six years of blockchain government relations experience, as its head of government affairs. Spiro aims to encourage collaboration between the public and private sectors to advance Tether and its digital asset ecosystem.

Teter appointed Jesse Spiro as head of government affairs. Spyro previously held key roles in the financial sector, including head of regulatory affairs for PayPal's blockchain and digital currency business and head of policy and regulatory affairs for Chainalysis.

The appointment is part of Tether's strategy to strengthen his government relations efforts. Spiro will oversee policy and engagement efforts with lawmakers, regulators and key stakeholders, which Tether says is critical to Tether's “leading role in the current and future growth of the digital economy and the dominance of the US dollar.”

The company behind the world's largest stablecoin by market cap has recently partnered with the TRON and TRM labs of the T3 Financial Crime Unit, an initiative to fight financial crimes in the crypto sector, specifically targeting illegal activities related to USDT on the TRON blockchain.

“The ever-evolving legislative and regulatory landscape continues to require strong collaboration between the public and private sectors,” Spiro said in a statement. “I look forward to working with industry, legislators and government agencies as we continue to grow Tether and its ecosystem together through education and engagement.”

Spiro is expected to bring a wealth of experience to Tether, having worked in the blockchain industry for more than six years in government and regulatory affairs. As Tether expands its operations and influence in the digital asset space, the ability could help Tether build and maintain relationships with policymakers.
