After Israel’s request, Binance suspended accounts linked to Hamas
Crypto exchange Binance has suspended accounts linked to Hamas militants at the request of Israeli law enforcement.
Yi He, the exchange's co-founder, said in an Oct. 10 WeChat post that the freeze was aimed at Hamas, not Palestine. As he narrated:
“Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations. Therefore, any organization, including banks and trading platforms, must cooperate to accept freeze requests. This is not something that Binance can decide on its own.”
Yi He went on to explain that no marketing platform can accept such requests: “Palestine has an organized government. Hamas is a local militant group.” They kill civilians. This is the problem. Hamas is not Palestine. The cold snap is aimed at Hamas, not Palestine. “
Earlier today, Israeli authorities with the help of Binance froze the crypto accounts of Hamas militants, Calcalist reported. Law enforcement says terrorists used the account to raise war-related funds through social media.
A day earlier, the Web3 community in Israel launched a charity campaign to help Israeli civilians affected by the ongoing conflict, Cointelegraph reported. Dubbed “Crypto Aid Israel”, the initiative supports both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) donations, along with other ERC-20 tokens such as Tether (USDT). Since its release, the campaign has received nearly $50,000 in crypto donations.
Yi He pointed out that ordinary users, including Palestinian civilians, will not be affected by the ban. “We did not close the accounts of ordinary Russians when war broke out before Russia and Ukraine, referring to previous events,” she said.
