AMD hardware accelerator to support blockchain interoperability

Semiconductor developer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is bringing an enterprise-grade hardware accelerator to the Web3 space to support blockchain interoperability.

The partnership will enable AMD to employ hardware acceleration and technical support for the ecosystem to help speed and scale multi-chain applications built with Wormhole.

Additionally, in the coming months, engineers from both AMD and Wormhole plan to release a new core of Zero Knowledge Light clients. This enables trustless messaging between blockchains including Ethereum, Near, Solana, Aptos, Sui and Cosmos.

Advances in zero-knowledge cryptography combined with improved computing power create a combination that supports secure blockchain transfers and reduces reliance on third-party entities to establish trust and security.

Wormhole claims that the adoption of Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) supports a trustless solution by reducing dependence on central node operators.

Hamid Salihi, director of product management for the Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group at AMD, said the company is “excited” to accelerate “decentralized computing in the blockchain industry.”

Wormhole ecosystem contributor Rehul Maganti said AMD's partnership brings the ecosystem “one step closer” to low-latency, trustless, multi-chain messaging.

The multiple ZK-enabled corridors expected to navigate through the joint should enhance the user experience “with speed and safety”.

AMD is best known for developing semiconductor chips used to power high-end artificial intelligence (AI) applications. It is in direct competition with market leaders such as Microsoft and Intel.

Many industry insiders in the Web3 industry envision AI and blockchain emerging as a power duo in the space next year, as both technologies provide complementary use cases for the other.
