An Ethereum upgrade aimed at lowering L2TX costs the deployment of eyes

Ethereum's Dencun update, introducing “proto-danksharding”, has successfully completed its final testing phase through the Holesky Testnet and is now awaiting its mainnet deployment date.

The data shows that Denkun's update was forked by Holesky on February 7th at 11:35 am UTC, and Nethermind shared the news on X shortly after. The update is widely expected to reduce transaction costs on Ethereum Layer-2s.

Denkun specifically introduces proto-danksharding via Ethereum update proposal-4844.

A key feature of the EIP-4844 is “blobs”, which allow temporary storage and access to large amounts of chain data by Ethereum nodes.

Gnosis head of infrastructure, Philip Schommers, previously explained to Cointelegraph that the implementation of Denko on the Ethereum mainnet will reduce the costs of staking by up to 10 times.

Denkun's mainnet deployment date is expected to be decided on the Feb. 8 AllCoreDevs call, with Ethereum bull Anthony Sassano saying on Feb. 7 that “all signs point to mid-March.”

Denkun's Chapelle update, which combines the Cancun and Deneb updates, is set to be Ethereum's most significant update since last April, allowing Ether (ETH) to be launched from the Beacon chain for the first time. Chain launched on December 1, 2020.

Cancun is focused on network expansion at the performance layer. While EIP-4844 is the core component, EIP-1153, EIP-4788 and EIP-6780 are the enhancement components.

Deneb, meanwhile, is focused on improving Ethereum's consensus layer.

Before Holeski, Denkun was deployed on the Goerli and Sepolia testnets on January 17 and January 30.

Denku's deployment to Gourley, however, suffered a four-hour delay due to an error that prevented Testnet from completing the upgrade.

“The network was unable to synchronize with the nodes,” Neboja Urošević, founder of Ethereum development platform Tenderly, told Cointelegraph at the time.

“It's one of the reasons why there are so many customers and why there are testnets,” Urosevic added.
