An Immutable 'Passport' Will Launch The Wallet Infrastructure With A Google Or Apple Login.

Web3 game publisher Immutable has released its new wallet infrastructure, called “Immutable Passport,” in a December 19 announcement. The new sign-in method allows users to create and recover wallets using a Google or Apple account or email address.

At launch, five games and apps implemented Immutable Passport: Gods Unchained, Blocklet Golf, B/R Watch 2 Earn, TokenTrove, and AtomicHub. These apps have a combined user base of over 500,000 people, the announcement said.

In addition to launching the wallet infrastructure, Immutable also launched a dashboard that appears automatically after logging in. The dashboard allows players to “easily discover new games, store and top up their funds, connect third-party wallets and manage it all.” [their] In-game items in one common experience,” the announcement says.

In an August blog post, Immutable published the results of a user survey that found players were twice as likely to sign up for a wallet using an immutable pass versus a traditional wallet.

In an interview with Cointelegraph in May, Immutable explained in more detail how it secures Passport when users sign up using their email address. In this case, it uses the Magic Software Development Kit, which generates a private key when you first log in. The key is encrypted and sent to the Amazon Web Services Hardware Security Module (HSM), where it is then stored. Because HSM access is controlled by a device-specific token sent to the user via email, neither immutable nor magic have access to this key. Because of this, Immutable doesn't want the user to trust Immutable with their money, so it considers Passport a “non-custodial” login solution.

The launch of Passport is the latest step taken by Web3 to make gaming more accessible to players. On December 11, the team integrated Transc as a payment option for its games. On December 13, it announced that a gas-free transaction option for the zkEVM platform would be available in 2024.
