Animoka brands ton web 3 ambition with gaming tools

Animoca Brands And Ton Foundation Target Web2 Gamers Via Telegram

Web3 company Animoka Brands has become the largest validator on the Open Network (TON) blockchain. This move strengthens the Ton Foundation's bid to bring more gamers to Web3 via Telegram.

Animoka Brands helps the Tone Foundation better understand user engagement through funding, research and analytics portals. According to Justin Yun, the foundation's director of development, Animoca's research and analysis aligns with Ton's vision.

Hyun said one of Ton's ambitions is to make Web3 games seamless for Telegram users. Ripe for new investment from developers like Animoka, it's a tool that allows developers to port any web game to Telegram with its 800 million user base.

“Together, we will bring Web3 into Telegram users' daily experiences, especially gaming, for a global audience to enjoy,” said Hayun.

Telegram developers and Dr. Nikolai Durov first floated the Layer 1 open source network in a 2018 white paper. By ditching ads, Telegram wanted to load tons of users and promote a wide range of cryptocurrencies.

Ton Testnet was finally launched in January 2019 and used the Share Proof Agreement method. Toncoin is the primary currency used to secure the blockchain and pay transaction fees.

The ban has since gained significant traction in the Web3 gaming space. It shipped the most Web3 games of any chain (29) in September, followed by Sui and WEMIX (nine each). A month later, in October, Toncoin Ecosystem reported that the number of Toncoin accounts increased by 250% last year.

Immersiveness is the key to web 3 games.

The offerings in the Web3 gaming space are still relatively unknown compared to releases by major studios. For example, many of the games released directly on Tons, such as Ton Planet Mars, Ton Squid, Battleplanes and Tonlands, are not as widely known as, say, Duty from Activision Blizzard or Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft.

One of the challenges Web3 developers must overcome is maintaining immersion, argues Michael Sanders of Horizon Blockchain Games, which is building tools for Web3 developers. A player does not have to stop playing, for example, to conduct a blockchain transaction. Players shouldn't feel like developers are taking advantage of them, Sanders warns.

In short, players shouldn't know whether they're playing Web2 or Web3 games, argues Jerome de Tychey, another industry voice. While first-generation games like Axie Infinity focused more on economics, second-generation efforts must prioritize the experience to win players over.
