ApeCoin, the token for Yuga Labs' Bored Up Yacht Club ecosystem, jumped over 10% on news that it was launching a new free-to-play version of the BAYC-themed game Dookey Dash.
According to data from CoinGecko, ApeCoin is currently trading at $1.58, up 10.1% over the past day and up 17.9% over the week.
The token price increase follows the announcement of the official launch of a new “unlocked” version of the endless runner title Dookey Dash; The game was previously exclusive to owners of Bored Up Yacht Club Sewer Pass NFTs.
A trailer for the new version of the game shows ApeCoin logos, although a spokesperson for Yuga Labs did not confirm that in-game rewards are paid in the cryptocurrency. The first game saw players compete for a 1-on-1 NFT key, with the winner selling “Mongral” to billionaire Adam Weitzman for $1.63 million.
Yuga Labs revealed in a tweet that holders of NFT collections, including Bored Monkeys and Mutant Monkeys, will receive “token benefits” in Dookey Dash: Unclogged.
The new game will be released for iOS, Android, Mac desktop and Windows desktop users and will drop in February, according to reports.
ApeCoin, an Ethereum-based token, is precisely the Boring Monkey Boat Club Ecosystem, a community that originated from the 10,000-strong BAYC Profile Picture (PFP) NFT collection and later expanded to include spin-offs such as the Mutant Ape Yacht Club.
While the BAYC cluster was created by NFT company Yuga Labs, ApeCoin itself was created by ApeCoin DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization to manage the token and its roadmap. Tokens were initially allocated to BAYC and MAYC holders, allowing the token to vote on community-led governance proposals for the DAO.
