Aptos Labs, NBCUniversal partner for Web 3 fan experiences, game
Aptos Labs and NBCUniversal have entered into a long-term development agreement to provide the entertainment company with Web3-enabled experiences, customer loyalty programs and games. Aptos has a history of developing fan experiences for major Universal films.
Aptos expands on previous Web3 initiatives offered by NBCUniversal, according to the announcement. Aptos developed the free game Renfield in March 2023 based on the movie “Renfield”. The game allows players to find bugs that give the possessor superhuman powers and match scenes from the movie. They then win prizes that include collectible digital art.
In September, Aptos created behind-the-scenes media, augmented reality filters, digital art and rewards for those who bought tickets to “The Exorcist: The Believer” on the Fandango service.
NBCUniversal is a believer in Web3.
Other NBCUniversal Web3 offerings include Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and a digital scavenger hunt at Universal Orlando Resort. That event was created in collaboration with the MoonPay blockchain payment system. Universal Pictures Vice President of Technology Partnerships Greg Reed said:
“Today's media and entertainment landscape is changing rapidly, with fan experiences and preferences driving more shifts than ever before.”
NBCUniversal is owned by telecommunications giant Comcast. NBCUniversal owns the DreamWorks movie studio and the Peacock streaming service.

Aptos has a hand in a lot of blockchain technology.
Aptos, led by former Meta executives Mo Shek and Avery Ching, launched a proof-of-stake blockchain in October 2022 using the programming language for Meta's failed DEM stablecoin project. Among other things, PancakeSwap powers a decentralized crypto exchange, Chingari, an Indian social media platform, and an overlay intellectual property rights protection service.
Aptos integrated Microsoft's artificial intelligence tools from Azure OpenAI service in August, hoping to appeal to the financial services sector.
