Arbitrum launches Gaming Catalyst Program to encourage Web3 gaming development
Layer-2 blockchain network Arbitrum is looking to grow its Web3 game development arm. A post on the official forum on March 12 announced the launch of the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP), a project that will provide 200 million ARB tokens for developer onboarding and game development.
According to the article, GCP's goal is to develop a long-term gaming ecosystem on the Arbitrum network.
“To strengthen the gaming ecosystem on Arbitrum and make the network a top choice for game developers across the landscape, we request that the DAO allocate 200m ARB over two years. GCP should be used as an incentive, not a blanket program, focusing on the board and supporting high-quality developers.” After leaving the GCP, the goal is to grow into a long-term gaming program with a more holistic approach to game ecosystem development.
As of this writing, the 200 million ARB is worth approximately $426 million. The funds will be used in part to develop promising studios and games on the platform, according to the forum post.
The project shared key productivity indicators and assumptions that included establishing Arbitrum as a “chain game leader”.
Other goals include taking 200 to 300 applications to developers, 20% or more of all Web3 games using Arbitrum as their base network, 25 new Orbit launchers, and more net migration to Arbitrum connecting to other Layer-2 networks.
It says that if the proposal is approved, 40 million ARB will be allocated for infrastructure grants. These will be paid on a proposal basis for the equipment and infrastructure required to support games in the arbitrum.
The GCP launch time and proposal comes three days before the ARB token launch. As Cointelegraph recently reported, Arbitrum will release 673.5 million tokens (worth around $1.34 billion at current prices) to the team and its advisors as part of a March 16 “cliff opening” of around 1.1 billion tokens.
