Avalanche blockchain browser shuts down when Etherscan payments create controversy.
Snowtrace, the popular blockchain explorer for Avalanche, will shut down its website — powered by Etherscan's Explorer-as-a-Service (EaaS) Toolkit — on November 30. The Snowtrace team explained that only browsers powered by Etherscan will be blocked. Down.
According to the October 30 announcement, Snowtrack users are required to save their backup information such as personal name tags and contact verification details by November 30. He pointed to Eterscan's Service Fees for EaaS Toolkit. Trading Strategy founder Mikko Otayama says an annual subscription to EAS can cost between $1 million and $2 million a year. Otama wrote:
“EtherScan is a great product, but smart contract verification is something that needs to be decentralized. Regulators and others are asking, ‘How did you verify this?' “The source code is hosted by a private company in Malaysia.”
Philip Liu, Jr., head of strategy and operations at Ava Labs, commented that the protocol is “just getting better” and is “absolutely” not stopping operations. For a fee, EtherScan's EAS service offers blockchains with a blockchain browser and application programming interface (API) solution. Block Browser may be interrupted due to non-renewal of EaaS service agreement, bandwidth or limited traffic. In such cases, users are advised to save their data such as personal name tags, transaction notes, contract confirmation details, etc. before closing.
Snowtrace by @etherscan example will be discontinued on November 30 (00:00 UTC).
