Back Off? Donald Trump Says He Can Live With Bitcoin

Donald Trump, the former president of the United States and a candidate in the upcoming election, has said that he can live with his position against Bitcoin.

In an interview with Fox News, the billionaire said that BTC, the leading digital currency, is getting too much attention and is taking on a life of its own, requiring some regulation around the property.

Trump said he has seen some interesting developments around BTC, like more people wanting to pay for goods and services in cryptocurrency.

Regardless of the growth in BTC adoption and usage, the former US president insisted that he has and wants one currency: the United States dollar (USD).

“Maybe you have to make some rules, as you know. But more people are accepting it, and more and more, I'm seeing people who want to pay bitcoin, and they're seeing something interesting. So, I can live with it one way or another. I would love something very powerful.” , which is called a dollar,” he said.

Trump's recent comments on BTC are in stark contrast to his favorable stance on cryptocurrencies in general. Crypto has been known to fire assets and has repeatedly stated that it is not a fan of them.

Trump's anti-bitcoin stance softens

Three years ago, Trump said investing in crypto assets was a potential risk. He called Bitcoin a scam, saying it was fake, and blamed it for watering down the greenback.

The billionaire also urged the relevant authorities to regulate cryptocurrencies “very, very highly” as they hurt the US dollar. He believed that strong crypto regulation would take the edge off the dollar and restore Americans' financial investment.

However, Trump's stance began to soften in 2022 when he announced the launch of a non-volatile token (NFT) collection that sold out within 24 hours of its release, costing the politician nearly $1 million. Before starting the NFT operation, Trump's wife, Melania, spent a year on Solana and raised the proceeds for children's charities.

Meanwhile, Trump has vowed to prevent the creation of a central bank digital currency in America if elected president earlier this year, saying it would be a threat to freedom.
