Hundreds of musicians and songwriters have signed an open letter from the Artists' Rights Alliance calling for an end to what it believes is artificial intelligence devaluing artists' work in music.

Most artists who have joined the Artist Rights Alliance movement are household names: Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Pearl Jam, Jon Bon Jovi, The Jonas Brothers, Peter Frampton, Billy Porter, Zayn Malik, Darius Rucker, Imagine Dragons, and Greta Vann. The group says it wants to stop “irresponsible” AI from “ruining creativity and undermining artists, singers, musicians.” and rights holders”.
“Make no mistake: we believe that when used responsibly, AI has great potential to advance human creativity and develop and grow new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere,” the alliance added.
Some musicians have embraced the technology, from the surviving members of The Beatles to Guns N' Roses, who used AI to release one last song.
The Artist Rights Alliance asserts that, left unchecked, AI will drive the competition downward, which will drive down the value of artists' work and prevent them from being properly compensated.
“This assault on human creativity must stop,” the group said. We need to defend against predatory AI to steal artists' voices and likenesses, violate creator's rights, and destroy the music ecosystem.
