Rumors of Bitcoin's demise in 2023 have dropped significantly
99Bitcoins Education website has maintained a list of “Bitcoin Obituaries” since 2010. This year, the project has tracked only seven articles that predict the imminent demise of the currency.
The first obituary, written when the price of BTC was $0.23, said, “Either it will remain a novelty forever, or it will go from novelty to death faster than you can blink.”
In December 2017, when the price of Bitcoin reached 20,000 dollars, the cryptocurrency received so many critics and supporters that 99 Bitcoins were followed by 124 obits that year and 93 the next year in the crypto winter. Last year there were 27 Bitcoin obits. So seven is the lowest since 2012.
This year's obituaries include early Facebook investor Chamath Palihapitiya and JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon. Palihapitiya says in his All In podcast, “Crypto is dead in America.” “Bitcoin is a fraudulent scam,” Dimon said on CNBC's “Squawk Box.”
Meanwhile, Bitcoin is on the verge of being approved by US regulators at the Securities and Exchange Commission for an ETF product. The development has breathed new life into crypto markets and shows that US courts and regulators no longer consider bitcoin a scam.
