Bitcoin Sold For $2 Million Was Used To Record 'Epic Sat' Ordinals Art-With Grimes' AI Voice

Bitcoin “epic satoshi,” or the particularly rare smallest denomination of BTC, was sold for 33.3 BTC in April — about $2.1 million at the time. Now Ordinary Property has been used to compose the music and AI-generated voice of Canadian electronic pop artist Grimes (aka Claire Butcher).

An “Epic Satoshi” or “Epic Sat” is an extremely rare satoshi—1/100,000,000 of a BTC—that is created every Bitcoin halving. The quadrennial event halves the amount of bitcoin earned by miners (who support the network). And those epic sats are said to be especially valuable to collectors when NFT-like ordinals are written on them.

The Bitcoin Ordinals project posted its latest epic record of 70,634,325 entries in its blobbook artwork on Sunday. The “Spikes” collection comes courtesy of the legendary Satoshi, who claims to be a doctor turned Bitcoin enthusiast and founder of Real Life, Cypherpunk Labs, and Blob Army.

Nuro explained that the set of “Spikes” will delve into the search for mind, brain and reality while preserving consciousness in Bitcoin. He added that “Spike #1” was filmed on epic sat and was created in collaboration with software developers and casual enthusiasts Eloque Remarque, Bopleton and Stectoshi.

“We are experimental artists who work at the intersection of art, science and technology, so it was our dream to put our work on EpicSat and inspire the community to experiment and create new art,” Noro told Decrypt. “We believe everyone is an artist, you just have to find your medium.”

“Spike #1,” Nuro said, is the first “neurogenerative” 3D audiovisual piece on Bitcoin Ordinals, and it includes brain data captured using the art in the text.

“Neurogenerative” is a riff on generative AI and neurographic art. Neurographic art refers to art designed to work with the subconscious mind. Predictive projects like Neurotech startups use generative AI to engage the subconscious mind and dreams during sleep.

Life says the idea to use Grimes' Elf Tech AI technology came after the spoken word project didn't produce the results it wanted, and suggested Elok look into Grimes' AI voice.

“What makes Grimes free and open is original art and music. [Elf Tech] An AI voice for the vocal class,” said Life.

In the year In April 2023, Grimes announced the launch of Elf Tech, offering 50% of her voice royalties on AI-generated music to anyone who uses her voice. “Feel free to use my voice with impunity,” Grimes wrote on Twitter. In other words, Grimes isn't personally involved in this project, but her technology could help any creator.

“I looked into it and saw that she was a badass cypherpunk saying, ‘Fuck copyright, use my voice with impunity,'” Life said of Grimes' own statements. “So I experimented with it and liked the ceremony and how it looked to give it a more cosmic and digital vibe. So since then I've been using it with my own voice and Stectoshi.

Life said that while the Elf Tech program was easy to use, fun and unpredictable, it was not without its problems, including crashes and installation issues. Nuro is not new to the world of Bitcoin art: In February, Cypherpunk Labs and Nuro Real partnered with Daisy Labs and Superchief Gallery to create a San Francisco gallery dedicated to Bitcoin Ordinals art.

In April, the latest of the four “epic sats” was mined by the Bitcoin mining pool ViaBTC and put up for auction on the cryptocurrency exchange CoinEX. As ordinary collectors place a premium on properties derived from rare satoshis, it is expected to fetch high volumes. And of course he finally saw a winning bid worth 33.3 BTC or $2.1 million during the sale.

After Spike #1's ordinal was written, a “child” version was coined as EPIC•EPIC•EPIC•EPIC Rune #66429 using the Runes token protocol initiated by Ordinals creator Casey Rodermore's halving.

Since its launch, EPIC•EPIC•EPIC•EPIC has seen more than $1 million worth of trades through popular marketplace Magic Eden, with a market value of nearly $50 million at the current 79 satoshis (at $0.05 bitcoin price).
