Bitcoin prices jumped as much as 1.1% as presidential hopeful Donald Trump widened the gap between himself and President Joe Biden in betting markets during the first presidential debate on CNN on the evening of June 27.
Before the debate, bitcoin was trading at $61,439 and quickly jumped to $62,152 as Donald Trump and Joe Biden answered rapid-fire questions from CNN moderators. It has since fallen to $61,362, according to TradingView data at the time of publication.
Data projections from the Prediction Markets platform showed Trump's chances for the presidency increasing while Biden's chances were declining, with viewers seeing Hunter stumble over some answers and leave some sentences unfinished during the debate.
Shares reflecting Trump's chances on the podium rose from $0.53 to $0.63 in one hour, while Biden's fell sharply from $0.48 to $0.37 over the same period — widening the gap between them to a 26-point gap.
