Coinbase Does Not Control Ai Token Integration For Users.

US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has announced that it will “not execute” the upcoming migration of tokens for the Alliance for Artificial Superintelligence (ASI), which means that Coinbase users will have to find out for themselves the integration of this highly anticipated token.

The Artificial Superintelligence Alliance is a coalition of AI-based blockchain companies Ocean Protocol, Fetch AI and SingularityNET. The group announced in April that their respective tokens—OCEAN, FET, and AGIX—would be merged. While the consortium says there will be mechanisms to exchange tokens, Coinbase says it won't be part of the process for now.

“For ASI token migration, Coinbase does not migrate these tokens on behalf of users, but users can transfer their own OCEAN and FET to ASI's Coinbase Prime Web3 wallet or other Ethereum-compatible self-custody wallet.” A spokesperson for Coinbase said Decrypt.

“Coinbase does not currently support it. [SingularityNET token] AGIX on our platform, which is why this is not included,” the company later explained.

Regarding the details of the exchange, Coinbase added that “trading support for FET and Ocean will continue until further notice.” Since the token merger will effectively convert the OCEAN and AGIX tokens to FET, it is not yet clear how Coinbase will support the rebranded FET token if it does not support the migration on its platform.

According to Fetch AI founder and CEO Humayun Sheikh, Coinbase's decision will not affect the integration of the three tokens.

“We confirm that the integration of AGIX and OCEAN into FET will happen on Monday, July 1,” Sheikh told Decrypt. Originally, the merger date was scheduled to take place on June 13, before the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance pushed the date back.

Finally, FET will become the official symbol of ASI when OCEAN and AGIX are released.

“This transition will be seamless, and FET's business will remain uninterrupted and will not be cancelled,” the union said in a prepared statement. The token will be renamed, but may add another layer of confusion for users. “The project will redesign into an artificial superintelligence alliance on platforms like CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko.”

“Not all exchanges are on board immediately, however, they will be integrated as we move into phase 2 of the migration,” the team added.

Coinbase's decision not to support ASI migration is not the first time the exchange has said it does not support token transactions.

As Gala Games prepared to launch its V2 token airdrop last month, Coinbase told users that they were free to send their tokens to self-sustaining wallets, and that the exchange would not support the transition, disabling trading for V1 GALA tokens. The new token does not allow holders to receive an airdrop.

Gala Games blockchain president Jason Brink tweeted at the time that he wasn't sure why Coinbase took this stance, but suspected it was because the event was seen as a “climate change” rather than a replacement for older tokens.

“My hope is that once they get some clarity they will decide to support the V2 token,” Brink said.
