Coinext CEO José Artur Ribeiro noted that the Web Summit's focus on crypto and Bitcoin (BTC) was “minimum” at this year's event. Ribeiro, a top Brazilian Bitcoin expert, told Cointelegraph.

“When I got to our crypto platform, I said, well, the crypto fad is over! […] “

Indeed, the position of the crypto platform behind the event has sparked discussions about its perceived importance. In light of WebSummit's approach, Ribeiro joked that “people are no longer interested in using crypto.”

Ribeiro mentioned the fact that crypto levels 15 and 16 are on the edge of an exhibition hall big enough to fit several jumbo jets. However, these levels are filled during the talks. Standing room-only rules were enforced as tech entrepreneurs from around the world gathered to showcase their interest in crypto.

As Cointelegraph Editor-in-Chief Cristina Lucrezia Koerner explained, AI crypto has become the mot du jour:

“Last year was different. I remember everyone mentioning the metaverse in relation to anything – and I think the rules.

She added that next year will definitely not be AI or the metaverse, and with the upcoming Bitcoin Spot ETF decision, crypto may be back on the menu.
