Decentralized vacation rental platform Dtravel has joined the Fetch.ai network.
Decentralized peer-to-peer vacation rental platform Dtravel announced on October 17 that it has joined the nonprofit Fetch.ai Foundation. Fetch.ai also announced the launch of the first AI-powered travel agent for developers on the marketplace.
DTravel's decentralized home-sharing platform launched in 2021 with the stated goal of providing an alternative to centralized vacation rental platforms like Airbnb.
Fetch.ai is a decentralized open marketplace platform for developers to develop, deploy, improve and integrate AI agents on the Fetch.ai blockchain.
Dtravel's intelligent vacation rental discovery agent is now available to developers on the Fetch.ai developer marketplace, according to an October 17 announcement. Essentially, the tool allows developers to integrate Dtravel's peer-to-peer network agent, powered by AI, into their projects via Fetch.ai.
Peter Bushe, chairman of the Fetch.ai Foundation, called the collaboration “a big step toward a more efficient, intelligent and user-centric travel ecosystem.”

Decentralized travel
The travel industry is dominated by a few centralized businesses such as Expedia and Priceline, but targeted travel businesses such as Airbnb represent a significant portion of the vacation industry capitalization.
Decentralized travel offers an alternative to the intermediary-based paradigm and enables end-to-end solutions for travel and hospitality. In practice, this results in lower costs for both renters and property owners for vacation rentals and home sharing.
The technological boom of the 2010s may serve as a benchmark for the overall decentralized finance movement as it gives way to the accelerated decentralized technology movement of recent years.
DTravel CEO Cynthia Huang said the entire travel industry could benefit “tremendously” from AI.
“To be successful, it requires a two-pronged approach – the first is to develop the technology and second, and most importantly, to create an ethical framework for collecting and using data to help these agents,” said Huang.
