The Ethereum Denkun update went live on the mainnet on March 13, 2024 at 13:55 UTC.
The update introduces “blobs”, which represent a significant reduction in transaction fees for Layer-2 protocols.

Ethereum Core developers have activated the Denko update on the mainnet, the most anticipated implementation at epoch 269568 at 13:55 UTC.

Denkun was previously successfully deployed on the Holeski testnet in February.

Ethereum and several L2 tokens rallied earlier in the week as the Denkun update approached. While prices have retreated slightly over the past 24 hours, the community will be paying close attention to what this hard fork means for the wider Ethereum ecosystem.

The last time community consciousness was this positive was during the previous two major reforms – the Shanghai Reform in April 2023 and the merger in September 2022.

The implementation of the Shanghai update on the mainnet allowed ETH holders to redeem their tokens for the first time since their deposits were opened prior to the merger. Denkun's release brings databases to the core network, with proto-danksharding to improve data availability and reduce transaction fees for L2s.

Users on Base, Arbitrum One, Optimism, zkSync and Starknet will benefit from other L2 platforms. Arbitrum Group Posted on X:
