Doctors Turn To Apple'S Vision Pro Headset To Practice Surgery In The Absence Of A Cadaver.

Medical technology company Veiond Metaverse recently announced that it will expand its medical telepresence platform footprint to Apple Vision Pro.

The company's real-time translation and remote communication services have previously been used over traditional virtual and augmented reality headsets to conduct what it claims will be the world's first “digital surgery” in 2023.

Along with Apple's recently released Vision Pro headset, Veiond Metaverse appears to be entering the high-end medical telepresence market at a time when the demand for new doctors outstrips the global supply of cadaver.

Metaverse

Veyond Metaverse is a newcomer to the field of medical technology. In the year Launched in 2021, its core services are surgical telepresence and immersive educational experiences.

It facilitates telepresence surgery by allowing subject matter experts to assist or perform surgeries in remote locations, according to the company's website. The surgeon who is on site with the patient can perform physical procedures, the attending physician can insert the headset in real time in the surgical area.

The company's other vertical, educational experiences combine haptic feedback devices with immersive augmented reality to help students learn first-hand.

Medical corpses are in short supply after the Covid-19 outbreak led to a global lockdown. To compensate for the lack of physical resources, Veiond Metaverse combines visceral 3D images with special haptic feedback gloves designed to mimic the sensation of surgery.

Extended reality

The Vision Pro is one of the world's most advanced (and expensive) mixed reality headsets. Apple calls it a “spatial computing device” to emphasize the idea that it's not necessarily a standalone gaming device, but basically it's a virtual and augmented reality headset — often like a mixed reality or augmented reality device.

Multiple external cameras capture the outside world while users donning the headset can view virtual images on the internal screens. This allows the combination of real world and digital images.
