Dogecoin Now Has Its Own Version Of The Buzzy Bitcoin Ordinals Project Runestone.

A month after the Bitcoin Ordinals collection, Runestone, tokens were released to eligible wallets, the Dogecoin Ordinals project hosted its own airdrop this week in honor of the event.

After the first Doge Runestone airdrop, a stock of 30,272 Dogecoin NFTs began trading on the secondary market with a total trading volume of 80,142 DOGE or nearly $15,000. The current Doge Runestone floor price is 170 DOGE, about $32 on the Ordinals Wallet Dogecoin marketplace.

Robo AI, the team behind the Doge Runestone drop, told Decrypt that it is building a DRC-420 protocol on Doginals to further enable Dogecoin-based media. A project representative described this project as “the first of its kind” on Dogecoin's blockchain.

Emerging from the Ordinals writing frenzy, the Doge Runestone takes its name from 112,383 sets of runestones thrown into select wallets.

The DRC-20 protocol, launched in May 2023, allows the creation of fungibles on the Dogecoin blockchain.

According to Doginal Explorer, there are more than 150 Dogecoin-themed NFT projects.

Following an earlier experiment on the Bitcoin blockchain, a pseudo Dogecoin enthusiast added a copy of the popular video game Doom to the Dogecoin blockchain via the Doginals protocol earlier this year. Standard scripts have been ported to the Ethereum ecosystem by ETHscripts.

Leonidas, an NFT historian, one of the co-creators of the Runestone project on Bitcoin, says he's all for airdrops following their lead.

“Runestone introduces a new template for how to distribute tokens, which we call a free and fair model,” Leonidas Decrypt said. “When I see that other projects are copying the free and fair model, I love it. The more airdrops like Runestone, the better.”
