Dogecoin secures NTIA certification for SpaceX’s ‘Doge-1’ lunar mission
The Dogecoin-funded SpaceX ‘Doge-1' Moon Mission is nearing launch after receiving key regulatory approval from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTA).
The clearance is a critical step toward obtaining final Federal Communications Commission approval, specifically providing X-Band and S-Band communications for the satellite, a critical milestone for the mission.
DOGE-1 satellite project received approval
The DOGE-1 satellite project is being developed by the space technology company Geometric Energy Corporation. The satellite is planned to be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
Geometric Energy Corporation CEO Samuel Reed confirmed DOGE-1 X-Band approval by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. However, Reid explained that the project is still waiting for the grant of the FCC license, which concerns communications in both X-Band and S-Band.
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (@NTIAgov), an agency of the Department of Commerce (@CommerceGov), has approved the DOGE-1 X-Band (0083-EX-CN-2022 in 📜).

The DOGE-1 satellite is designed to display a small screen displaying advertisements, images and logos. These images are transmitted to Earth as part of the satellite's special capabilities. In particular, the funding for the full deployment of the DOGE-1 satellite will be in DOGE tokens and will be the first satellite aircraft to be fully funded using this cryptocurrency.
Dogecoin for the moon mission
The launch of DOGE-1 was originally announced by SpaceX founder Elon Musk in 2021 as part of a rideshare collaboration between Intuitive Machines and NASA in the US space program. However, the launch, originally set for 2022 and now targeted for January 2024, has faced several delays.
DOGE-1 is one of two Dogecoin-related missions planned for the coming months. In addition to the satellite mission, Dogecoin's developers plan a physical DOGE token to be part of the Pittsburgh-based astrobotic space payload mission.
The mission is scheduled for December 23 and will carry 21 payloads from various entities including governments, companies, universities and NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Service (CLPS) initiative.
The impact of the Dogecoin community extends beyond space endeavors. Recently, the mayor of Sakura City recognized the community's generosity by donating a bronze statue and making it a major tourist attraction and raising its profile.
From supporting a NASCAR driver to raising funds for clean water projects in developing countries, the Dogecoin community continues to use the influence of cryptocurrency to create real-world positive impacts.
