EigenLayer improves EigenDA security to combat Sybil attacks

EigenLayer has implemented an additional security feature for the EigenDA data delivery service on the Ethereum mainnet to prevent Sybil and denial of service attacks.

According to X's post from EigenDA, the permissioned security measure uses Internet Protocol address or Ethereum's Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) authentication to ensure enhanced security and access to the service.

ECDSA authentication is a cryptographic method for verifying the identity of a user, device, or system. It is based on the principles of public-key cryptography and uses elliptic curve cryptography to ensure secure authentication.

Safety feature

With its additional security features, EigenLayer aims to protect the service it provides and ensure its availability to all customers.

EigenDA's free tier offers up to 768 kilobytes of throughput in a 10-minute window, which is far more than even the most congested rolls on Ethereum require. For example, Beth uses less than two drops every 10 minutes.

In addition, EigenDA allows partners to request increased amounts above the free tier, providing a flexible solution for high-demand cases.

Through the partner registration page, interested parties can collaborate with EigenDA to develop solutions for their data needs, supporting multiple applications and high-skill innovations.

EigenDA generates synthetic payloads of 0.6 megabytes per second and achieves a maximum throughput of up to 10 megabytes per second on the network.

EigenLayer is implementing EigenDA license-free fees for Bloob throughput, scheduled for release in late 2024. This feature allows users to reserve bandwidth at a limited rate to support peak consumption demands.

Eigen symbol distribution

In May, EigenLayer completed the second phase of the EIGEN token airdrop, marking the end of phase 1 and contributing to the total distribution of 113 million EIGEN tokens, which is 6.7% of the supply allocated for the airdrop.

Once claimed, tokens will be temporarily locked until the end of the third quarter of 2024. However, users can still carry out share and delegation activities with EigenDA operators through the EigenLayer web portal.

EigenLayer, which launched on the Ethereum mainnet in April 2024, has already collected more than $12 billion in deposits. The platform opens up the authentication of new projects using a wider network of trust, thus eliminating the need for separate security solutions.
