EigenLayer's protocol interrupt testnet is now live

Pending approval of EigenLayer Update Protocol-002 (ELIP-002), the mainnet launch protocol, the EigenLayer slashing testnet went live on December 20th.

A scalable upgrade introduces a special allocation of shares to node operators and operator clusters for Active Authenticated Services (AVS) on the EigenLayer.

EigenLayer's Actively Validated Services are projects that support the Ethereum Layer-1 network to validate off-chain services.

Specifically, Ether (stETH) staked on Ethereum L1 acts as collateral on blockchain ecosystems without charging the asset on L1.

Special Share Allotment Reinstatement of operators on EigenLayer mitigates dilution risks by allocating them as “Special Share” that deducts their holdings from only one AVS. This protects accumulated capital from unrelated activities or proactively verified services.

Operator Groups Actively authenticated services provide the option of organizing operators into groups, assigning tasks, and defining cutoff parameters.

Slashing promotes trust in the blockchain ecosystem by penalizing validators or extorting a portion of funds from operators for errors, service failures, or dishonest behavior.

These truncation penalties are intended to ensure that validators maintain onchain integrity for the networks they serve.

The EigenLayer AVS community grows

RedStone became the first major word provider to establish AVS on EigelLayer. Data authentication service launched on EigenLayer in TestNet mode with plans to grow the network over time.

RPC node provider Infura has announced plans to launch its Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN) as an AVS on EigenLayer as part of its expansion.

InfuraDIN is a decentralized marketplace for APIs for Web3 developers.

In a December 6th blog post, EigenLayer announced that it is improving its Rewards update. In the year The reforms, which started in January 2025, will provide due diligence services to distribute rewards to operators based on performance.

EigenLayer is currently focused on porting actively authenticated services and consumer crypto applications to the Reconfiguration Protocol.

EigenLayer co-founder Sreeram Kannan recently told Cointelegraph that consumer-facing applications are the final segment of EigenLayer's 4-segment market, which includes node operators, Acrively verified services, and asset trackers.
