Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ gov meme sends political speculation
Elon Musk may be floating the idea of establishing himself as the head of a new government agency if former US President Donald Trump claims the Oval Office again in the November 2024 election.
To be honest, Musk teased the idea on X's social media platform with a double-edged clipboard and a reference to politics.
The post features a seemingly AI-generated image of Mask sitting behind a desktop plaster with the letters “DOGE” printed on it. The image was accompanied by the caption “Government Efficiency Unit”.
Dogecoin hit a 24-hour high in the hours following Mask's posting, although as of this writing, it is still below last week's highs for the past seven days.
Musk's political interests
Cointelegraph recently reported that Trump has recently promised to create a government efficiency commission. According to the former Commander-in-Chief, the commission is “responsible for conducting a comprehensive audit of the federal government's finances and performance, making recommendations for radical reforms.”
Musk retweeted Trump's comments along with his own, saying, “This is so important.” The billionaire tech mogul appeared determined to contribute to the political committee, though he stopped short of saying he would accept an official government mandate.
“I look forward to serving America if the opportunity arises,” he said, “no pay, title or recognition required.”
Government efficiency
It's unclear if Musk is seriously considering a government position or if the back-and-forth presented in the media has any merit. Trump's comments that Musk was “agreed” at the site were framed by the notion that he was “not too busy.”
By Trump:
“Elon, very busy, agreed to lead that task force. If he has time, he is a good person and agrees to work.
Elon Musk's comment that he is “not too busy” may have been taken as a joke. Musk is currently the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and xAI, as well as the owner of Neuralink, The Boring Company and the X social media platform.
As recently as August and September (so far) in Brazil, he has been embroiled in a heated debate over the banning of X.com, accepted a challenge to a physical fight with Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro, and renewed his lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman. .
It may not be clear until the results of the November election whether Trump or Musk are seriously considering further cooperation.
