ETF analyst sparks outrage over ‘blatant misinformation’ about Ethereum
Eric Balchunas, a senior exchange-traded fund (ETF) analyst at Bloomberg, has angered the online Ethereum community, who say he posted “misinformation” in a now-deleted X post.
On October 7, Balchunas added that he was responding to a crypto question from Benjamin Hart's book Bitcoin: A Beginner's Guide, and that Ether (ETH) is “not as secure as Bitcoin (BTC).” Book recommendation by ETF Store President Nate Gerasi.
An excerpt from the book says the US government could “shut down Ethereum” by telling Amazon Web Services (AWS) to shut down its cloud services.
AWS serves as a hosting provider for 28.4% of Ethereum nodes. Not enough to knock the network offline.
Another claim in the book is that a rogue government or terrorist organization has kidnapped Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and forced him to give up “all the ether they want.”
In response to Balchunas' deleted post, Ethereum master Anthony Sassano wrote: “Complete misinformation and complete propaganda.”
Sassano added: “You should be ashamed of yourself for sharing this (and you only deleted it because you didn't want to deal with the people calling you).
Consensus product manager Jimmy Ragosa said the joint quote is “the most propaganda-vulnerable article of all time.”

“These reactions are going to be amazing hahaha,” Balchunas' fellow Bloomberg EFF analyst James Seifert responded to the now-deleted post.
Balchunas replied, “Lol I don't have time today, I just left the Bitcoin parts.”
Ethereum's developers have also recently emphasized on decentralized staking and lower hardware requirements to make the block chain more decentralized.
