The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is exploring options to expand to Layer 2 networks, including building its own dedicated layer, said ENS Executive Director Cory Whittar.

In an interview, Whittaker said ENS was conducting internal discussions. ENS is considering complementing and building on the existing network. Ethereum layer 2 Combinations. In these conversations, one hope is set: to make them their own.

ENS considers the indoor layer 2 network as the “identity layer”. Although there are currently no details on the proposal, Whittar said that he will announce the progress of the research efforts after concrete results are available later this year.

Whittaker says most of the ENS developers' discussions focus on tracking development and integration with the Optisism network. ENS developers are considering implementing zero-knowledge authentication to better protect user data.

According to Whittar, the ENS as a protocol poses structural and cognitive problems. As an open standard, ENS relies on developers to integrate domain name services.

We depend on builds and developers to build and then push to ENS. There's an awareness challenge that we have to overcome, which we're definitely working on – we need to be able to get into more major institutions like GoDaddy.

ENS soon Partnership Partner with a domain provider to provide free domain usage on ENS. This partnership helps solve awareness issues: users can now link .eth blockchain names to traditional domains, making adoption easier to understand even for end users.

“Crypto is still this strange place for most of the world, and all you hear about are these scandals, the price going up and down,” Whittar said.

“I want to see a future where we're not talking about Web2 versus Web3,” Whittar added, commenting on the confusing taxonomy behind current domain standards and technologies. “He said he wanted to see the future,” Whittaker said.[it’s] It's just the internet or just on the chain and all these technologies – they fade into the background.
