Fewer Women Than Men Own Crypto, But They HODL Too: Report

Is Crypto a Man's Game? Not exactly, according to a new report. In fact, women are just as likely to “HODL” as men.

That's what New York-based crypto exchange Gemini said in a new survey of 6,000 people. Their report, “2024 Global State of Crypto,” found that the gender gap in crypto still exists—male investors generally outnumber women—and the number of people who buy and hold digital assets is about the same between the two. genders.

In the crypto world, to “HODL” – a misspelling of “hold” often pronounced as “hold on for dear life” – is to buy crypto and not sell for a long period of time… and especially the monthly market volatility.

“The percentage of investors who acquired their first crypto a year ago in the past 12 months is roughly the same between men and women and is higher among women in the UK,” the report said. “This statistic [leads] We believe that women are just as likely to buy and stay for the long term as their male counterparts.

The report – which surveyed people from the US, UK, France, Turkey and Singapore – found that 69% of respondents were male, while 31% were female.

Of the five countries surveyed, Turkey had the highest representation of cryptocurrency investors (58%), followed by Singapore (26%), followed by the US (21%). France and the UK are tied at 18 percent.

Looking at American investors, one in 10 surveyed said they only own crypto through an exchange-traded fund (ETF).

Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) approved 10 place Bitcoin ETFs in January, and then in May Eight Ethereum ETFs. ETFs are popular investment vehicles that aim to democratize investments traded on stock exchanges.

The long-awaited crypto fund now allows investors to buy shares that track the market value of the two biggest digital coins without having to hold the assets themselves.
