FIFA, Mythical Games join forces to launch blockchain game FIFA Rivals

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and blockchain game studio Mythical Games have partnered to launch FIFA Rivals – a free-to-play soccer game for Apple iOS and Android.

Scheduled for release in the summer of 2025, FIFA Rivals will allow players to manage their own soccer clubs and compete against other players in real-time arena play.

“Build your team, dominate the competition and create your legacy in the new title,” Mithical told sports-loving gamers.

The company's chief executive, John Linden, said FIFA's rival could attract more than 100 million players, with the NFL's rival the game being watched by more than 6 million players from a far narrower audience.

To put things into perspective, nearly 5 billion people will tune in to the FIFA World Cup in 2022, while nearly 500 million people watched the NFL qualifiers last year.

FIFA Rivals is protected by the Mythic-backed Mythos blockchain and the Polkadot network.

The partnership aims to bring together the growing number of sports associations with blockchain game studios to provide fans with exciting and interactive experiences.

The proposed blockchain games allow players to own in-game assets and monetize them in the game-to-earn economy.

One of Legend's early successes was Blankos Block Party, a social building and peerless simulation game that has since been ported to Polkadot and is seeing nearly 3 million monthly transactions.

FIFA Rivals is made possible through the Methos Foundation, which launched Legends in October 2022 to support new players and developers in the ecosystem.

The Mythos Foundation is tasked with building cross-platform infrastructure, NFT in-game economies, providing support to gaming associations, promoting traditional esports participation in Web3, and partnering with traditional gaming platforms to build new policies for players.

Legend secured $37 million in Series C1 funding in June 2023, which it will use to build out its marketplace and pursue other monetization initiatives.
