Former Disney boss launches Web3 game studio with Marvel, Star Wars talent
A team of Hollywood and gaming elites have teamed up to launch AAA web3 Game Studio in the United Arab Emirates.
Named “Galactic Entertainment Publishing”, the recently launched venture represents the first arm of parent company Galactic Group.
The company's first venture, PlanetQuest, is in active development starting in 2022. Lauren Roosendahl, CEO of Galactic Entertainment and founder of Planet Quest, told Cointelegraph that the game has already installed a large user base even though it hasn't launched yet.
“PlanetQuest Passport holders hold more than 300,000 connected wallets, more than 200,000 of which contain one or more PlanetQuest NFTs.”
AAA franchise experience
The team behind PlanetQuest from Disney, Warner Bros. , is comprised of former employees of Activision-Blizzard and Epic. Their previous credits include everything from movies like “The Batman,” “Avengers” and “Blade Runner” to AAA games like “Fortnite,” “Call of Duty,” and “Call of Duty.” Battles: Jedi Survivor.
John McCoy, the company's chief creative officer who has worked on blockbusters at AAA Hollywood throughout his career, said those experiences cannot be compared to his work with Galactic Group.
“Naturally, a first attempt at something new isn't perfect, but it's been amazing to create a sci-fi universe with fans in a way they've never experienced before. I've been able to achieve many of my childhood dreams by working on Star Wars, Blade Runner and Marvel movies to name a few, but nothing compares to being able to interact and build a fan base from day one.
PlanetQuest
The company's first title, PlanetQuest, is described as being set in a “Star Wars-like” world with assets that can be owned and traded by players. Everything from ships to planets can be copied as digital assets, which players can use for their own game or sell/trade to other players.
According to a report from VentureBeat, Galactic currently plans to launch tie-in media for PlanetQuest, including novels, comic books, and an upcoming game.
