GoDaddy charges $0 for an ENS .eth domain name
A partnership between the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and domain registrar GoDaddy allows the Web3 community to link their .eth names (domains) to Web2 domains at no additional cost.
As a decentralized Domain Name System (DNS), ENS .eth domains allow users to register domain names on Web3, simplifying complex wallet addresses into human-readable names and other features. With GoDaddy on board, Web3 users can now link their .eth domains to traditional URLs at no cost.
The GoDaddy-ENS partnership removes the hurdle of high gas fees that previously prevented users from bringing domain names to ENS. Paul Nix, president of Dora at GoDaddy, highlighted the development as “the integration of domain names and blockchain technologies”, which will benefit the Web2 and Web3 ecosystems.
According to the announcement shared with Cointelegraph, ENS has enabled a cost-free transition by deploying new smart contracts for the settlement process. As a result, DNS domain owners can realize a new form of autonomy by gaining more control over their own decentralized identities.

In July 2023, GoDaddy's Web3 competitive non-stop domains will allow users to purchase .eth names with additional payment methods and functionality to streamline the management of ENS domains.
All .eth domains purchased from Unstoppable are registered with the ENS smart contract and have the same functionality as those registered directly through ENS.
.Eth is coming to Unstoppable.
Unstoppable is now your one stop shop for Web3 domains. Buy and manage your .eth, .nft or .x domains in one place.
Is it still better? We're introducing new functionality that makes buying .eth domains easier and more seamless.

In the year In November 2023, ENS developers Braden River Peszczyk, Matthew Everett Gould, and Bogdan Gusiev filed a counterclaim for a non-stop domains patent claiming to be the inventors of a technology that uses blockchain technology to define domains.
However, ENS developer Nick Johnson says the patent is “entirely based on ENS's inventions and does not contain any new inventions of its own.” He argued.
“The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a distributed, open, and extensible naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain. The job of ENS is to map human-readable names like ‘alice'. eth' to machine-readable identifiers like Ethereum addresses, other Cryptographic addresses, content hashes and metadata.
In a written response to Cointelegraph, Unstoppable Domains CEO Matthew Gould said after denying claims to steal ENS's intellectual property, “Our 18 patent applications, including the “344 patent for ‘resolving Blockchain Domains,” are strategic steps to protect our large-scale Web2 Freedom to operate and defend against potential attacks on domain registrations.
