How a crypto trader made over $100K with two tweets

Ethereum's layer-2 solution explosion continues to be a very profitable place to make money. On Thursday, Twitter user punk9059—a popular crypto personality—claimed to have earned more than $100,000 by posting two tweets primarily related to the Pacmoon meme coin.

I got paid over $100k for two tweets, Punk9059 tweeted. “Surprisingly, I didn't know this would happen.”

Pacmun is a meme coin on the Blast network that launched its mainnet in late February. The Blast Network has attracted attention by raising more than $1.4 billion ahead of its upcoming BLAST token airdrop at the end of June.

Meme coins are tokens based on internet memes, famous people or brands. Pacmoon uses Pac-Man-inspired visuals, and rewards social media interaction and community engagement by giving fans tokens for sharing relevant content.

Showing off the tweets, Punk9059, who works for Motherland and was previously on verification, first tweeted the news of the free airdrop of Pakmoon (PAC) tokens to stakeholders, along with the referral code, on February 28. It was a popular tweet, sure, but the benefits were even bigger than expected for the mistake.

“This twitter has gone viral,” Punk9059 said. “People copied/pasted the words. And my friend [Frank DeGods] He mistakenly tweeted my code, not by himself.

Frank DeGods, aka Rohun Vora, is the founder of DeGods and y00ts NFT projects and commands a large following on Twitter. His misguided referral code share ultimately paid off big for Punk9059—but at the time, his PAC token wasn't worth much.

Frank said he gave me $50 after Punk9059 mistakenly tweeted the wrong referral code. And that tweet, including a photo of Frank holding a $50 bill while being hugged by Pnk9059, also went viral — and thus won several awards.

He received 354,179 PAC for referrals, then another 698,137 PAC tokens for tweet views, eventually totaling 1,052,316 tokens—which equates to $168,370 as of Thursday. As of this writing, that total is about $218,000 and the PAC is up 7% over the past 24 hours.

“There were a couple more tweets in the mix, but these two took the lion's share of the work,” said Punk9059. “Best part? My followers also got a W if they saw the tweet and subscribed.”

“We'll take it,” he added.

Punk9059 did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Decrypt.
