In Meme-Oriam: Kabosu, The Original Doge Who Inspired Dogecoin Passed Away.

The beloved Shiba Inu Kabosu, the popular meme that inspired the launch of Dogecoin in 2013, has passed away.

Atuko Sato, a 62-year-old kindergarten teacher who lives in Sakura City in Japan's Chiba Prefecture, confirmed the news in a blog post on Friday with her husband. She also wrote a poem about the passing of the dog.

“At 7:50 p.m. I fell fast asleep,” reads a translated version of the poem.

It was just last year that the Doge-centric NFT community backed by Doge DAO, a Doge-centric decentralized organization (DAO), organized a trip to find the puppy that inspired so many memories for Cabosu fans.

Doge DAO was born out of PleasrDAO, a collective of NFT artists and collectors to raise funds for culturally relevant digital art.

The first photos were taken by Atsuko herself and uploaded to her blog in 2010.

The word “Doge” is taken from the 2009 Hard Bad video. It's become Internet shorthand for “cute dog.” The words were paired with the photos and then captioned with cute snippets of dialogue for the dogs inside written in Comic Sans – the font is very important – just like the Shiba Confessions Tumblr page.

A few years later, Jackson Palmer launched Dogecoin in 2013. Although it was used to raise money for charities, it was mostly a joke coin. But in the year In early 2021, the r/WallStreetBets community banded together on Reddit to determine the price of Dogecoin. That May, Dogecoin rose to an all-time high of $0.7316.

At one point, even the investor Mark Cuban predicted that Dogecoin would hit $1 and become a stable coin.

It's no wonder heirs find a way to sell the news, no matter how indecent it is. A businessman who appeared to have hoarded billions of KABOSU meme coins has since passed away and sold his entire bag for $230,000.

At the time of writing, the price of DOGE has decreased by 5% compared to yesterday and is trading at $0.15. But Dogecoin (DOGE) is not the only one inspired by Kabusu. DOGE created all dog themed meme coins like Shiba Inu, Floki Inu and more recent startups like Dogwifhat.

The whole class is very sad. The dog-themed coin listing on CoinGecko is down 5% compared to yesterday.
