In the midst of recent update releases, Zilica fights back-to-back network outages

The Zilica network has recently experienced several operational outages, affecting block production on the main network. However, as of May 10, full network functionality has been restored, although the cause is under investigation.

Zilica informed the community that the network is now online following a “temporary outage to suspend production on the mainnet”. With network functionality restored, the infrastructure team continues to “monitor the stability of the network while working to determine the cause of the recent outage.”

Since the first signs of disruption appeared on May 8, when block generation slowed down, Zilika Network's technical team remained on alert for 48 hours, aiming to prevent further disruptions.

On May 9 at 9:30 UTC, the Zilica technical team discovered a crash that returned a null value “instead of node RLP following an invalid database lookup.”

“The team has created internal practice networks to recreate this issue and test bug fixes, allowing solutions to be tested in an isolated environment before moving to testnet and mainnet deployments.”

On May 9 at 2:30 PM UTC, the team reverted to a full functionality fix, along with the release of the Zilica version 9.3.4 network update. The team stated that the update includes “several improvements for EVM compatibility” and apologized for the inconvenience caused to users and the Zilica community.

However, despite the release of fixes and updates, additional production-blocking disruptions hit the Zilliqa mainnet again on May 9 around 7:05 PM UTC. During this time, the team improved debugging procedures to better diagnose the problem and address the root cause of the disruption.

This is not the first time that the production of Zilica Block has been disrupted due to technical problems. In December 2023, “outage to block production” daily Zilliqa blockchain transactions fell by approximately 50%, from 61,000 to 30,906.

The Zilica team continues to investigate the root cause of the recent network outage and thanks the community for their patience and support in resolving the issue.
