WazirX, India's top crypto exchange, was hit by a security breach on Thursday, the company confirmed the incident in a recent statement. At the time of the report, the estimated loss was over $230 million.
The exchange has announced that it will temporarily suspend Indian Rupee (INR) and crypto withdrawals to protect user funds while it investigates the incident.
The attack was first reported by security firm Cyber Alert earlier today. According to Syvers, the suspicious address removed about $235 million worth of crypto assets from Wazirx's multisig wallet, transferred the money to a new address, and then converted it to Ethereum (ETH).
“The suspicious address has already converted $PEPE, $GALA and $USDT to $ETH and continues to convert other digital assets,” Sievers Alert said the hacker used TornadoCash, a privacy-enhancing tool, to disguise his activity. of funds.
The Syvers team said they tried to contact WazirX during the discovery but got no response.
According to chain investigator ZachXBT, the hacker still has $100 million in SHIB and $4.7 million in FLOKI at press time.
