Indonesia's vice-presidential candidate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has pledged to provide more opportunities for the youth through blockchain and crypto to strengthen the country's talent pool.
The current mayor of Surakarta, Indonesia, Gibran, is reported to have said at a political meeting that his party will provide opportunities for the young people in the digital space. The politician emphasized that he develops the skills of the future with the skills of the future.
The digital push includes entering the blockchain and crypto realm. During the event, Gibran said it will train blockchain, crypto and cyber security experts. He also mentioned that the candidate will train experts in artificial intelligence and digital marketing.
Gibran, the eldest son of current Indonesian President Joko Widodo, was chosen on October 23 as the preferred running mate of Indonesian Defense Minister and presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. The 36-year-old politician is now running for the vice presidency, which will depend on Indonesia's general election scheduled for February 14, 2024.
Indonesia – the hub of Web3 technology – is stepping up its push into crypto in 2023, despite previously moving to ban crypto payments. On May 28, the Indonesian government cracked down on tourists involved in cryptocurrency payments and said they would be “dealt with strongly,” such as deportation or other criminal penalties.

On July 21, the country launched a national crypto exchange, which is controlled by local regulators. According to the Indonesian government, the platform will be the only place in the country where the exchange of digital assets is legal.
