As Compton explains, “Instead of making sustainability a price, we encourage people to take sustainable actions by rewarding them with tokens. If you recycle or take public transport, you won't be fined – you'll be rewarded.
This change in approach – one that rewards users for sustainability efforts – shows how blockchain can be used to make environmentally friendly choices not only accessible, but also economically viable.
Tse brought a different perspective to the discussion by showing the puffpaw approach to overcoming nicotine addiction through Web 3. Puffpaw's “vape-to-earn” model offers users token-based rewards for reducing their nicotine intake, which is monitored by connected devices that track vaping habits.
“The best part is that we have Bluetooth connectivity, sensors and chips for each pod, so we can track smoking activity. Based on that data, we can create a system that helps users reduce their nicotine intake.”
This approach combines health-focused technology with blockchain to create an ecosystem that helps users quit smoking while offering financial incentives to encourage growth.
According to Tse, the integration of hardware and blockchain in the PuffPaw model demonstrates the potential of Web3 to solve real-world issues in a data-driven and user-friendly manner.
The show went beyond these specific projects to the broader potential of Web3 technology. Both guests agreed that the incentive could serve as a cornerstone for future blockchain applications, especially in areas such as health, education and environmental sustainability. The guests highlighted the challenges of building Web3 products with incentive structures and creating a balance between market incentives and the goals of these platforms.
