After a week Hackers attacked Sony's PlayStation studio Insomniac Games released a public statement on Friday about an “extremely troubling” ransomware attack, after it sought millions of dollars in Bitcoin after acquiring and releasing tons of confidential and confidential information.
“We are both saddened and outraged by the recent criminal cyber attack on our studio and the emotional damage it has caused to our dev team,” Insomniac Games shared on Twitter (known as X).
“We are working quickly to determine what data was affected. This experience is extremely troubling for us,” the studio added.
Insomniac has confirmed that sensitive current and former employee information as well as contractor information was exposed as part of the cyber attack, along with details about the upcoming Wolverine game based on the Marvel superhero.
Insomniac said it would no longer make any announcements related to the Wolverine game because of the attack.
“Like Logan … he's sleep-deprived,” the studio said, referring to the game's claw-wielding superhero character. “Marvel's Wolverine will continue as planned. The game is in pre-production and like all our projects will no doubt improve significantly throughout development.
Last week, Sony told Eurogamer that it was aware of the attack, but didn't believe other units were affected.
A hacker group known as Rhysida claimed responsibility for the attack and demanded a ransom of around $2 million in bitcoin within seven days before releasing the stolen data online.
Sony and Insonic do not appear to have paid the ransom, as the information was later leaked. About 2% of Insonic's data was sold to unknown buyers and the remaining 98% was publicly disclosed.
