Italy during the presidency of the G7 as one of the main issues to address the regulation of AI
Italy, one of the European countries that effectively blocked OpenAI's popular chatbot ChatGipt, has made artificial intelligence (AI) one of the priorities of the Group of Seven (G7) presidency, which runs from January to December.
On December 4, 2023, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a press conference outlining the country's top priorities for the 12-month presidency of the G7. These include supporting African development, supporting Ukraine and solving problems around AI. Meloni spoke about the challenges faced by AI:
“I'm very concerned about the impact[of AI]on the job market. […] Where are we facing a revolution today? [human] Intelligence is in danger of being replaced.
While Italy's prime minister did not elaborate on her specific concerns about AI, she said she plans to hold a special AI-focused meeting of G7 members ahead of the first summit in June. The impact of AI on the labor market has been controlled by the Italian government for some time. In the year By May 2023, the country has allocated 30 million euros ($33 million) to the Fondo per la Repubblica Digital (FRD) to boost the capacity of the unemployed and those whose jobs are at risk of being taken over by automation and AI.

The agency pointed out that there is no legal basis for storing personal data in AI data that is collected in bulk while training the algorithms.
The ban was lifted after a month when ChatGPT met all the requirements. However, in November, Italy's data protection authority announced the launch of a “fact-finding” investigation into the practice of collecting data to train artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms.
