LEGO removes crypto scam from homepage after hack: Report it
Toy maker LEGO Group has reportedly removed a “LEGO Coin” token scam that briefly appeared on its homepage after it was hacked on October 5.
X user and LEGO fan “ZTBricks” was among the first to spot the scam, which promised “mystery prizes” to those who bought LEGO Coin, according to several screenshots at the X show.
“Our new LEGO Coin is officially out! Buy LEGO Coin today and unlock secret rewards!”
People who clicked on the “Buy Now” button at the bottom of the message were reportedly taken to the phishing site.
LEGO has not officially commented on the incident – however, the LEGO Coin message and “Buy Now” link are missing from the home page.
LEGO told consumer tech product forum Engadget that the reported cryptocurrency scam only appeared “briefly” on its homepage and no user accounts were compromised.
“The matter has been resolved. No user accounts are affected, and customers can continue shopping as usual.
“The cause has been identified and we are implementing measures to prevent this from happening again.”
LEGO Coin first appeared on the LEGO homepage on October 5 at 1:00am UTC and was removed 75 minutes later, according to “mescad”, a moderator of the “lego” subreddit.
The incident took place at 3am in Billund, Denmark, where LEGO's headquarters are located.
Cointelegraph reached out to LEGO but did not receive an immediate response.

In the year In March 2021, toymaker X-label hinted that it might be entering the realm of virtual reality when it hashtagged “#NFT” in a 14-second clip of a 3D LEGO brick spinning in space. However, the post was soon removed.
LEGO Group holding company KIRKBI, however, has invested $1 billion in video game publisher Epic Games to accelerate its Metaverse plans in April 2022.
