Lemon Crypto Exchange is launching a Bitcoin-backed credit card

Argentine cryptocurrency exchange Lemon has launched a Bitcoin-backed Visa credit card, La Nacion reported on Wednesday.
Lemon is the second largest crypto exchange in Argentina and serves over 5.5 million users. The new Bitcoin-backed Visa credit card allows them to get financing in pesos without having to sell or exchange their BTC holdings.
“Using Bitcoin as collateral, we've created an easy way to get a loan in pesos without the need for a credit history,” Limon founder and CEO Marcelo Cavazolli said in an official statement.
The release is the first step in product development, simple methods and limited quantity.
How does the Lemon BTC backed credit card work?
According to the exchange's website, the user deposits 0.01 bitcoins — currently worth more than $900 — and gets a credit card with a predetermined amount of $1,000,000 in pesos. In this way, Bitcoin is only held as collateral, and is not sold or exchanged.
“Bitcoin is the best store of value created in human history and a fundamental component of the new digital economy,” Cavazzoli added.
Additionally, at the next project stage, users can set their own reserve and credit limits. In addition, Lemon is developing a solution that allows dollar-denominated purchases to be paid for in digital dollars such as USDT and USDC stablecoins, the announcement read.
User benefits
Lemon pointed out that the credit card users will have commission-free purchases of digital dollars, Bitcoin, Ethereum and more than 30 cryptos. In addition, exclusive benefits include early access to new features, a newsletter with market information and portfolio summaries.
The card maintenance will be waived by Rootstock for the first three months, the company said; Following this, 7,500 pesos ($500) per month will be waived for users who purchase more than $150 worth of cryptocurrency per month.
“In Argentina, Bitcoin is the most valuable asset held by users of the cryptocurrency, more than the crypto dollar and the peso,” he added. “With this card, Lemon wants to turn those savings into an everyday tool.”
