Mark Zuckerberg revealed his answer to ChatGPT Meta AI chatbot
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company's new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant – Meta AI – their answer to OpenAI's ChatGPT, which will integrate with Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and eventually the company's mixed reality tools.
At the MetaConnection event on September 27, Zuckerberg explained that Meta AI is powered by the company's large language model, Llama 2, which is partnered with Microsoft Bing to help users find information on the Internet.
“Meta AI is your basic assistant that you can talk to like a human.”
In addition to answering questions and talking to users, the newly announced bot can generate images, using a new image generation tool called Emu, which Meta trained on 1.1 billion photos and captions shared by users on Facebook and Instagram.
Citing the main point that differentiates Meta AI from its competitor, ChatGPT, Zuckerberg said that instead of creating a one-size-fits-all chatbot, Meta's overall strategy was to create different AI products for different use cases.
As an example, he showed how Meta AI can be a little different in each of the company's social media apps, giving an example of how it can help organize travel plans in a group chat on Facebook Messenger.
Zuckerberg says Meta's chatbots aren't just meant to convey helpful information. They are also designed to be conversational and entertaining.
Showcasing its entertainment-focused AI products, Meta announced a collection of chatbots based on roughly 30 celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and former NFL player Tom Brady.
According to Meta, the new AI assistant will be available on Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp for select US users on September 27.
Meta AI will be available to users for the company's new smart glasses, which are scheduled to be released to US users on October 17, as well as the new Quest 3 VR device.

On the same day as the MetaConnect event, OpenAI announced that chatbot ChatGPT will not be limited to data until 2021.
According to a September 27 post on X, the updates will be available immediately to Plus and Enterprise users using the GPT-4 model.
Prior to this update, chatgpt experienced an ever-widening gap in its knowledge base. Due to the nature of how AI models are trained, such as generative pre-trained transformers (GPT), ChatGPT's knowledge base has already expired in 2021, the year it could be ready for production.
