Messari CEO Ryan Selkis resigns after politically biased posts

Ryan Selkis has resigned as CEO of data aggregator platform Messari following public controversy over calls for civil war and political comments on immigrants in the United States as the election season heats up.

According to the announcement, Mesari's Chief Revenue Officer, Eric Turner, will lead the company. Turner joined Messari in 2018.

“I have decided to step down from my role as Chief Operating Officer at Messari and move into a Senior Consultant position. “This was a decision I did not take lightly when I was thinking about a problem I am passionate about in society, and I came very close to making it last month,” Selkis' statement said.

Citizen or Green Card Holder?

Selkis has actively shared his political views on X, but his recent tone on social media seems far-fetched. “Anyone who opposes Trump at this point can die in a f— fire,” former President Donald Trump said on the X-Post after the July 13 assassination attempt.

In a subsequent conversation with a follower on X, Selkis asked about the person's immigration status. After the follower replied that they were green card holders who had been in the US for 10 years, Selkis responded by expressing his desire to have the user deported.

Selkis later said on X that he personally apologized to the man.

Crypto policy

Selkis' announcement hinted that he might be more involved in the upcoming election. Now, according to the former CEO, he will focus his full attention on solving “systemic problems” in institutions.

“On a personal level, I was horrified by last Saturday's assassination attempt on President Trump, and disgusted by the failure of the media and the administration to come up with answers to the attack, as well as their failure to address the divisive rhetoric that contributed to the attack in the first place. The fundamental causes of these systemic problems in our institutions.” I will devote all my energies to solving the issues.

In a later comment, Messari said that Selkis will now spend his time working on crypto policy.
