Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has announced a partnership with SBI VC Business, the financial services behemoth SBI Group.

In an announcement on September 2, Metaplanet's partnership with SBI VC Trade is part of the company's desire to advance its Bitcoin strategy with the support of Japan-based companies. This includes the trading, protection and management of Metaplanet Bitcoin.

Metaplanet is a publicly traded company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and its partnership with SBI's crypto arm provides a path to greater compliance.

“A key component of this partnership is access to a compliant corporate protection service that prioritizes tax efficiency and allows Bitcoin to be used as collateral,” Metaplanet said in a statement.

The alliance with SBI VC Commercial is in line with Metaplanet's vision of becoming a leading modern financial services firm. It also adds flexibility to Metaplanet's corporate strategy, strengthening its efforts to raise more BTC through equity and debt financing.

Metaplanet will notify stakeholders of any financial or material impact arising from the partnership, as part of the disclosure.

BTC as a corporate strategy

The partnership with SBI VC Trade comes at a time when Metaplanet is increasingly targeting bitcoin as part of its corporate strategy. In April 2024, the company It was announced It added BTC as the main treasury and committed 1 billion Japanese Yen to buy Bitcoin.
