Metaverse is coming directly to your web browser, here's how

Over the past few years, the meta version has become increasingly mainstream, with companies like The Sandbox becoming household names well beyond the Web3 realm.

However, after the initial hype dies down, onboarding new users remains a challenge in the space for developers looking to make digital reality.

In an effort to make Metaverse more accessible and user-friendly, Layer-1 blockchain and metaverse protocol Somnia has announced that it is bringing Metaverse directly into users' web browsers.

On May 15th, the protocol released Metaverse Browser, designed with a simple and intuitive interface for new users to easily explore the Web3 and create custom content.

Somnia founder Paul Thomas says they hope to create a more “inclusive and accessible metaverse.”

“This platform is not only about simplifying technology, but also about empowering individuals to explore and create without limits.”

Thomas told Cointelegraph:

“[Users] I don't need experience with Web3 wallets or even have Web3 wallet installed to connect to the browser; All of that is compressed for the user… hopefully this will allow anyone to use it and be part of the scale and use Web3.

The browser also pointed out that users can create and deploy decentralized applications within the Somnia ecosystem.

This includes artificial intelligence (AI)-based generation tools that allow you to easily create objects even without 3D art experience.

According to Thomas, users are deploying a first-party marketplace to allow users to buy and sell their own Metaverse items and avatars, creating what we call the Metaverse Material Economy.

“Developers get a software development kit that allows users to easily create applications to interact with Metaverse,” he said. “These apps can range from a profile viewer to a Metaverse marketplace.”

Somnia has partnered with Web3 media company Yuga Labs to offer exclusive prizes for selected Yuga Labs Non-Vulnerable Token (NFT) collections.

These users will receive a bonus on any points earned during the Somnia Points Dream Hunt incentive campaign, which rewards users for participating in similar experiences.

Thomas says that such partnerships will “enhance the initial community engagement” and encourage some of the larger communities in Web3 to try Metavas in the browser.

Yuga Labs is recognized as a leader in bridging digital and physical reality, coining the term “Yugaverse.” It is the company behind popular NFT collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Apes, CryptoPunks and more.

On April 26, Yuga Labs announced the start of a restructuring process following the appointment of Greg Solano as CEO two months earlier.

Although MetaVas has been on a steep decline, the market is still expected to reach a value of $74.4 billion by the end of 2024, according to Statista. The overall trajectory suggests, even on conservative estimates, that it is set for upward expansion.
