Nero on Ethereum (NEIRO) has broken into the top 25 meme coins by market capitalization according to CoinGecko. This comes after the token was listed on Binance, Crypto.com, HTX and OKX exchanges in the last three days.
Earlier this year, Dogecoin official Kabosu passed away. Two months later, Kabosu's owner adopted a new Shiba-inu named Nero. This led to a meme coin war as two Solana meme coins came out in honor of the new puppy and then Ethereum Nero entered the picture. But now the dust has settled and “Nero on Ethereum” is out of the box.
The token has increased by 233% in the last 7 days.
On Friday, OKX listed Nero for trading on Ethereum futures with Binance two hours later. In the following days, Crypto.com, HTX and several smaller exchanges also listed the token.
In response, its biggest rival, Ethereum, fell 47 percent to a $19 million market cap, and competitor Solana dropped 22 percent to $7.2 million. Meanwhile, Nero has climbed to $161 million in Ethereum's market cap, placing it as the 23rd largest meme coin by market cap, ahead of tokens such as Maga (TRUMP), Gigachad (GIGA) and Mumu The Bull (MUMU).
“Congratulations! Great to see another dog token on Binance! Woof,” the official Shiba Inu Twitter account responded to Niro's announcement of Binance's listing.
This comes after mmcoin influencer SlumDoge (also known as Dogecoin Millionaire) asked the crypto community to unite around Nero. He explained to Decrypt that after Dogecoin rose to popularity and other Shiba-inu tokens were created, the community struggled to dominate.
Now Nero wants this to be the moment when the two communities merge.
“There's been a lot of competition between the Dogecoin and Shiba Inu communities,” SlumDoge says in the What's Meta? Podcast. “I started thinking, damn, I wish there was something we could all agree on. I feel like Nero, this is an opportunity for both large dog-oriented communities to come together.
His sentiment highlights why Shiba Inu's official Twitter response in support of Nero Binns' listing is worth attention. As for Dogecoin, there is no word from the official social media channels to suggest support for the token since Nero has the same owner as the late Cabosu.
